Description

Pioneering project to centralize the control of public lighting in municipalities assisted by the Badajoz Provincial council.

The project

CLIENT CHALLENGE

The Provincial Council of Badajoz launched an extensive Smart lighting project across 145 small municipalities (less than 20,000 inhabitants) to upgrade traditional sodium and mercury vapor luminaires to LED technology and install a centralized remote management for the entire provincial lighting network.

This is the first project in Spain to centralize lighting throughout an entire province.

The Badajoz Provincial Council has divided the project into 19 bundles, distributed among nine successful bidders. Eight of these bundles have selected Wellness TechGroup’s WeLight Smart Lighting as the solution to provide remote management for the luminaires. Approximately 400 dashboards will be managed with Wellness TechGroup technology.

SOLUTION

The province of Badajoz will centralize the control of public lighting through remote management systems and devices such as Unigate. The solution will improve the service provided to municipalities and control all aspects related to lighting. In addition, the system breaks down management by municipality, and generates useful information for improved lighting management.

The centralized lighting management model will generate significant savings for each municipality involved in the project, as the service cost is shared with the other municipalities.

WeLight Manager is the web-based platform enabling centralized control for all participating municipalities. Using this system, each municipality will be managed independently with the involvement of the designated managers, and will be supervised and controlled by the Badajoz provincial council.

RESULTS

  • Reduction of CO₂ emissions and compliance with environmental standards.
  • Detailed knowledge of consumption to optimize contracting of energy supply.
  • Real-time identification of deviations and incidents and improvement of response times.
  • Customization of specific demands for on/off switching in each municipality (or even neighborhood).
  • Integration in city platforms for management of buildings, tourism, citizen services, water management, parking, waste, etc.
  • Scalable system that enables point-to-point control.
